I figured a shoe repair store might have replacement laces for an odd pair of shoes. I was right. Not only were they able to help me find something close to the right size, the prices were competitive with any sort of discount store. I also noticed a huge variety of shoe care products. I rarely need shoe repair, but I'll probably be back for some good quality shoe polish and other products.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They do super good work, and very on time. I don't know about the prices because I have nothing to compare them to, but the prices feel reasonable, not exorbitant. I am super duper happy with what this place can do for shoes and luggage. I had several pairs of old heels that I still really love that they fixed up really well. Most of them are mid-priced footwear but cost enough to make it worthwhile to replace the heels. One pair in particular is a pair of black Italian made CFM boots 🙂 with red sole. I really really love those boots because the shaft is nicely sculpted, the heel super skinny and the toe super pointy. Of course, since I love them, I wore them a lot, and as a result, their sole and heel took a beating (see pic). I took them to the Shoe Hospital on Burnet Rd and they put on a rubber sole, in red of course, and new heel tap. Now the boots are like new! I'm going to really enjoy wearing them again. The Shoe Hospital had also repaired a suitcase's wheel for us. It was again, a mid-priced suitcase, not a super fancy one, but we love it because it's in a distinctive leopard print (easy to spot on the luggage conveyor belt!). One wheel somehow got ground down and have a “square” side. They replaced the wheel for about $35 and the bag has a new lease on life.

I had used Austin Shoe Hospital a few times in the past and was not that impressed. But the final straw for me was my last visit in January when I went to get my boots re-heeled. After I got the boots back I noticed that the heel material was too soft and every time I used the boots, pebbles and dirt would stick to the bottom of the heel (very uncomfortable). At closer inspection, it appeared the edges of the heel had become uneven as a result. The heels were covered with little craters from where I had walked on gravel (but brushed the pebbles off). To make a long story short, I had to have this work redone elsewhere and the new shoemaker who did it said the material that had been used was likely a cheaper material of lesser quality that did not withstand the conditions of use. So in other words, I don't trust the service that is being provided here and will not go back.

We admit we’re a little hard on our shoes. But instead of fretting when we filet our soles, we take them to Austin Shoe Hospital. In no time flat, they buffer our uppers and heal our heels. And we love their online mail-in service. Simply put, they are the wind beneath our wing tips.
